CHINA PAINTING: CHEEKS
China painting cheeks: When applying cheek blush to a doll head, first apply a fine film of Area medium to the cheek area first (a dull sheen). Do not apply with your fingers, you may contaminate the medium. Use a clean doll sponge. Second, dab on cheek color with a different doll sponge. Third, blend with a China Mop or Pouncer for a well blended cheek. There are many ways to apply cheeks, just keep in mind that you need to keep your porcelain head, medium, brush and color free from contaminant. Some red china paints may be more difficult to use, so be patient and learn the best method with your colors. If your cheek blush is fading or rubbing off after the firing, try adding a little flux to the paint mixture (this will help adhere paint to porcelain) or try mixing in less medium, your paint may have been too thin. Also check your firing, most china paints fire to a cone 017-018. If you kiln is firing cool, you will need to calibrate your kiln or use one cone hotter.
