KwikClean  Brush Kit Instructions

Part #KTBRKC
General Purpose
Made of the softest capra hair, the KwikClean Brushes are used wet to pre-clean seam lines and imperfections in greenware in the leather hard stage in preparation for the final cleaning of soft-fired ware in the Dust-free Technique.  Brushes come in 6 handy sizes so that you have the right brush for any size and shape of greenware.
Selecting the Right Size Brush
If you are cleaning a medium size head or body parts we suggest you use the size brushes mentioned below. If you are cleaning small or large pieces of greenware you will need to change the sizes of brushes accordingly. Generally, when you repair pinholes or scratches or smooth out tiny detailed areas you should use a smaller size brush. When you go to the final step of pre-cleaning you use a larger size brush.
Pre-cleaning Step by Step
1. After you release the head and body parts from the mold let the pieces set up for a few minutes. When pieces are leather hard trim the spare and cut out the pate.  Pierce the ears, sew holes, etc., and cut out eye openings with a Feather Knife.
Note:  If you do not have time to pre-clean a head as soon as it becomes leather hard you can save it for later cleaning by storing in a plastic bag or container.
2. Use the side of a Lace Tool (ST04) to scrape away most of the seam lines.
3. Dip KwikClean Brush SBR93 into bowl of clean water and then push it against the side of the bowl to remove much of the water.  Then blot brush on a cotton diaper or terry towel. With head gently cradled in one hand, lightly rub the wet brush back and forth across the seam lines until they melt away.  The brush handle should be vertical during this cleaning stage. Next, smooth neck and pate openings or any other rough edges with same brush. Re-dip the brush in water when you see porcelain mud collecting on the greenware--generally, about every third brush stroke.  The trick is to keep your brush very clean.
4. Use a wet KwikClean Brush SBR91 or SBR92, to repair any pinholes and scratches in the greenware.  There is no need to apply much pressure, as you do not want to remove facial details.   Use these same brushes to clean around the crevices in the face, such as inside the lips and ears.  If necessary, you can use a Double Ball Stylus or wire tool to add detail
5. For the final clean up get a bowl of fresh water and turn the diaper or towel to the clean side.  With only the tip of a wet brush SBR94, make long, light sweeps across the greenware to remove any brush strokes and porcelain mud. The handle of the brush should be horizontal at this point.  Clean your brush after every 2 or 3 sweeps across the greenware.
6. Soft-fire head to cone 018.
7. Finish cleaning head in Dust-free Technique. Soak head in warm water for about 5 minutes. Size and bevel the eyes and finish cleaning and smoothing the eye rims with a GreenCleen Brush.  Inspect the head in good light. If you see any small scratches smooth them with the soft side of a Comfy Scrub.
8. Rinse head under tap while wiping lightly with a soft, wet mop.
9. Bisque fire.  Sand with #220 Grit Scrubber, rinse and air dr
